2017, Dresden, Germany. Metamorphosis. The Human Stories
2016 international project “Metamorphosis. The Human Stories” in the city of Gyumri became a catalyst for this exhibition at the Dresden Fine Art Academy.
I saw the scars and memories of the 1988 Gyumri earthquake reflected in urban spaces and first-hand stories of survival. These prints are based on my walks through the streets of Gyumri—beautiful, resilient, forever affected by this horrific natural disaster.
Being a part of the project connected to the refugee and migrant crisis, it is important to emphasize that displacement can be caused not only by distant wars, but also can be brought on by natural disasters, and can strike anyone at any time.
In a global community, every person carries a civic and humanitarian responsibility not to be indifferent in the face of human suffering, to stop dividing humanity into “us” and “them”.
